an explosion of defiant teenage energy, galloping momentum and pink attitude hits your ears the moment you press play.
with a radically performative universe, the band positions itself as a new take on what alternative rock can look and feel like on the danish music scene.
holly horsepower is an alter-ego universe where characters, scenography and dramaturgy are just as central as the music:
“we (holly horsepower) needed a free space. a place where you’re allowed to be weird, ugly, angry and childish. when we step into the holly horsepower universe, different rules apply,” says vigga bang-larsen.
a rebellion against perfection and artist culture – a love letter to teenage defiance.
dit look 1 is not a classic debut. the EP revolves around the character “little sister.” she is nostalgic and self-ironic. she longs for a time before social media, before owning the “right” clothes and curating picture-perfect feeds. a time when the digital world was clumsy, and imperfection didn’t need to be curated.
across the EP’s three tracks, cowgirl, lullacry and rotten banana, the band explores themes of pressure, restlessness and alienation. the lyrics circle frustration rather than romance.
cowgirl opens the EP with a childlike fantasy about the perfect nuclear-family life. in lullacry, we lie sleepless in a festival tent with little sister. and finally,rotten banana closes the EP with a commentary on big-city “main character” mentality and the feeling of not fitting in.
holly horsepower was born in a stable in århus, but its roots stretch to the outskirts of the country. the band speaks to the angry young audience with teenage blood in their veins, those who are tired of their parents, think everyone in class is a bit boring, and aren’t afraid to stand out.
