proven capacity of heart & spirit, is the second album by copenhagen duo spiderpeople. the first time with the band in studio, the music was recorded over the course of just one evening, capturing a moment, the band found unable to recreate. with the release of the record, the band shares a document of a longer process for them. a process both working with their musical material and their process of working, but also a process concerning the role of their music in a larger societal context.

with the music, spiderpeople has been working with their duo, developing from their work with idiomatic pointillistic free improvisation, into a field, where improvisation is a method, but their aesthetic is drawing from a larger range of contemporary influences.

keeping in touch with a free-jazz milford graves-esque rhythmical flow, but placed in context of a wall-of-sound aesthetic, taking cues from swans and the surrounding new york scene.

proven capacity of heart & spirit … is the first studio-album from the duo spiderpeople. engineered, recorded and mixed by themselves, in their own version of a grunge/rock-producer steve albini-esque sound aesthetic. a mix of spontaneous improvisation, and loose motific song-material, which they have developed through the course of playing concerts.
the 5 tracks on the album, each consists of strongly evocative, but simple motives, letting each song meditate, develop and shift around. Both the rockin’ album opener, greta (anger, hope & resistance), as well as the lament san francisco fountain peace march, feel like an extension of the same universe and space.
